HOW TO CREATE A SOCIAL CONTEST AND MAKE IT SUCCESSFUL

My name is Spencer Cree, CEO and founder of UDID Activation.  We currently started a social contest where we are giving away a free custom iPad 2.  I thought I would take this time to share how we created our contest for those few who might care!  Social contests are great to gain followers on social sites such as Twitter and Facebook, or gain +1’s on Google+.  It is a known fact that the more followers or likes on these social sites means more views on your site and more money in your pocket.

But, how do you create a successful contest you ask?

It’s really not too hard actually.  First of all, find something that people want.  iPads are all the rage now a days, so that is what we chose for our contest.  You may choose whatever you would like, but make it something that people are going to want and are willing to enter a contest for.

Create a contest page!

This, I think, is the hardest part of the contest!  You need to create a nice page for you users to go to and enter.  Make it simple, and have the barrier of entry into your contest set low.  The harder it is to enter a contest, the less people will want to enter!  So make it easy.  You can check ours out at UDID Activation.

Create buzz!

You need to have EVERYONE know about your contest.  Obviously, the more the better!  Share it on all of your Twitter accounts, your personal Facebook page along with your business Facebook page.  EVERYWHERE.  Even contact some well known blogs and see if they will run a story for you about your contest.  The more people that know, they more successful your contest will be!

Have them interact daily!

Have your users interact daily.  Have them Tweet something different everyday to keep the buzz going.

Make it a big deal when the winner is selected!

When you pick the winner, how ever you do it, be it randomly or whatever, make sure you make a big deal about.  @mention them on Twitter, and announce it on your contest page and your Facebook page.

Good luck on your contest!
